Would You Feel The Same About God?

For some reason I have been deluged by religious folks concerning my eternal soul and advised on ways to assure my place in the hereafter.  Christians, Catholics and even Muslims have hit me up as if they were car salesman and I was the last customer to buy a car so that their quota could be met  by the end of the month.

The general consensus was that certain criteria needed to be met or certain actions performed if I was to ever get past those pearly gates or to be introduced to some umpteen amount of virginal female youths ready to do my bidding, kind of like a celestial cat house I guess.

For all of you atheists, lets just assume that God exists (They have been doing it for thousands of years, you can bear with it for a minute or two). This got me to wondering, all of these religious people said that God loves me and that they love God, and in order to get into heaven, I needed to do and believe certain things to move on after I die. It made me wonder whether the intent of the beleivers were selfish and for their own needs and not so much the God that they believed in. They want so badly to get into those pearly gates and some idyllic existence that they would offer themselves up to the God of their choice to ensure their heavenly boarding pass.

I then got to wondering, how many people would maintain their affection and loyalty to their God, if lets say that God told you, “You know Bob, you’ve been a real loyal and loving servant to me and I appreciate it, But, due to issues beyond my control I’m gonna have to send you to hell for all eternity. I’m sorry, I am sure that you will understand in time, since that is all that you will have! Enjoy the roast”.

And if Satan or some other God or deity offered them a better deal, would the hell bound people take it to save themselves? I am sure there would be a few, there always is. Would that change the way you felt about God, or would you stick by your original God through thick or thin, better or worse, and feel that if it is hell he wants for me, then hell it is. Or would you be bitter and angry and wonder what the hell was he thinking (Pun intended).

Do we really need the heaven and hell thing to make up our minds on making the right decision, cause people still do bad things even if they believe in a God, or are we really sure that what we do in our daily lives, are for all the right reasons, no matter how we justify them in our minds?

Just a thought on my mental radar!

Take care

Steve
